And just like that, it is December, and the holidays are here. No matter the type of property you manage or sell, it is always a great idea to take advantage of the holiday season and add a little joy to your tenant’s day. There are plenty of things that can be done during the duration of the holiday season that can help boost your business and show expertise. Here’s how to prepare your property for the holidays!

First off, and probably the most important, is to make sure to decorate your property. No matter if you manage condos, commercial businesses, apartment buildings, or any other kind of property, there is always room to decorate for the holidays. You do not need to go all out, but it is good to have some kind of decorations like lights, a Christmas tree, wreath, garland, etc. Without any decorations, you will easily stick out among the other surrounding properties. The decor will also keep your employees happy and attract outside customers.

Poinsettia flowers are a staple holiday flower that can be used for indoor décor. Please be aware that they are not to be displayed outside. Christmas trees are also an essential Christmas decoration to have, room permitting in your lobby, main hallway, etc. If you want to buy a new, real tree every year, your tenants will love the authenticity and smell, but if you want to save money and time, invest in a fake tree to use every season.

If you want to do more and have an event, you can hold a small tree lighting. Everyone is aware of the legendary New York City Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree and Lighting Ceremony every year. How about you get some local Christmas carolers in on the event too?

If you are having an open house during the holiday season, feel free to decorate the property festive. In doing so, you are making the property feel home-like enough that your potential buyers can vision themselves living there. Make sure to enlighten all the senses, adding holiday-scented candles, playing music, providing seasonal cookies, and making the property look as comfortable as possible.

Something else you can do for the holiday is set up a donation for charity. Not everyone is as fortunate as others and do not get to experience all the wonders of the holidays. This can be done with a simple collection box, online fundraiser, giving tree, or other type of donation collection.

One final thing to do for the holidays is add a “holiday activation” to your property. This would be best for a commercial property, but any common area or lobby in a property could benefit from it at well. An “activation”, or a brand activation to be exact, refers to a campaign, event, or interaction in which your brand generates awareness and builds lasting connections with your target audience. Most activations are interactive, allowing audiences to engage directly with a brand and its products. Many malls and shopping centers have added “Instagrammable” brand activations to their property to attract customers to go and take pictures and promote their brand. Customers love it and the property gets more promotion and exposure. You can create any kind of holiday activation on your property like a giant Christmas tree, wrapping paper wall, giant ornaments or presents, etc.

And do not forget to get the snow blowers and salt ready for the cold winter. Make sure you do not have anything outside that might be in the way or get ruined by the snow/snow blower. By being prepared for the snow, you are decreasing the chance of having any slippery accidents with tenants!
