Spring is finally here! (sort of). Now that winter is over it is time to tackle spring maintenance. The winter months cause a slew of issues ranging from ice damming, clogged gutters, damage from salt and snow plowing, the list goes on! Now is the time to address these problems along with other repairs that can’t be done in during cold and icy weather. We had a particularly rough winter this past season, so there is much to do.
This is a great time to conduct some structural property checks to assess winter damage. By the end of winter gutters are usually clogged from the accumulation of snow and other debris. This can often times lead to exterior damage if not properly addressed. Speaking of the exterior, any painting or power washing that my have been put off should move to the top of your to-do list.
The winter weather may also have a negative impact on your roof. Ice damming is one of the commonly seen problems. Ice can accumulate in the shaded areas of the roof that don’t get as much sunlight. You’ll need to inspect the shingles to make sure they aren’t cracked, loose, or missing any granules. Another thing to keep an eye out for is any wear and tear or rotting that may have amassed. The same goes for your decks as your boards may have rotted or loosened.
Another major item to address is any asphalt/paving maintenance. Potholes, re-striping, and seal coating should be tackled as soon as weather permits. Low temperatures disrupt the drying and curling process as well as the setting of asphalt.
Spring is the ideal time to address these and any other exterior projects!
